Ellery Eskelin and Gerry Hemingway began their musical association in 1997 in the context of Mr. Hemingway’s quartet first documented on the Auricle Records CD “Johnny’s Corner Song”. The concept of recording as a duo emerged out of a mutual interest to explore the shared musical understandings that have grown over the course of years of performing together. Ellery & Gerry have also recorded together on two of Gerry Hemingway's Quartet cds, both released on Clean Feed Records, "Devils Paradise "& "The Whimbler". Ellery is also featured on "Riptide", the 2011 Clean Feed release of the Gerry Hemingway Quintet, that also features Oscar Noriega, Terrence McManus and Kermit Driscoll. Hat Art has since released an Ellery Eskelin Trio record with Gerry & Gary Versace called "Willisau Live".

Inbetween Spaces was recorded in July of 2008.
